JamJammies – Nursery Rhymes & Kids Songs is a channel on YouTube, which offers traditional teaching content for toddlers. The channel was created in 2015, when the children segment of the English-speaking YouTube was in its heyday. At that time, there appeared mass channels, which used a limited number of entertaining genres, mostly prank or unboxing. The authors of the channel “Jam Jammies” decided to move away from this tradition by creating a training channel. Why is their content classic? First, the channel’s authors refused to exploit the images of popular multimedia characters. They independently create the main characters of each video. Bloggers are professional multipliers, so they create characters using modern graphics design programs. Secondly, youtubers create covers on time-tested children’s songs. For example, traditional English songs about Humpty Dumpty or Alice from Wonderland. And thirdly, each video on the channel has an educational purpose, and does not contain advertising. These good goals are rewarded, because the channel has more than 100 thousand subscribers, and some video products have more than 5 million views.
What about the content? The first themed video block contains nursery rhythms based on the popular song “Five Little Monkeys”. In the original song, little monkeys jumped on the bed until they got bruises. In the covers the roles of monkeys is performed by five small boys. In each series, they made some pranks, for which they are later punished by their mother. For example, once they ate too much ice cream. Such videos teach small viewers that not obeying their parents is not good. In the second block there are video clips that can teach such fundamental things as names of colors, geometric forms, representatives of flora and fauna. For example, a cartoon girl talks about the colors using lipsticks, and a cartoon boy talks about geometric shapes using toy cars.
